| | calm | ] | Well my third Winter Carnival has come to a close, each one seems to be a different experience for me. The novelty of my first year is long gone and realization of being what it is from last year is still here. I guess this year was all about catching up with people. Since I've been here 3 years people have come and gone and I miss some of those people. They come back up and its nice to catch up with them after a few months of limited communication. Strong bonds have been formed or improved this carnival. Dan thinks I should run for General Manager of WMTU. Something I'd like to do but at the same time something im quiet scared of.
Who knows what next year will bring? Predictions say that it will be similar to this one. All I know is that I hope You will be here. |

Think I might delete this and make a tumblr. Aside from one person in particular no one really reads this. Although come to think of it it would probably be the same if I changed sites. I suppose i dont have as many interesting things to say as I used to. Or maybe it's because i've said the same things over and over that they dont seem interesting anymore.
Been getting into a classic rock resurgence over the past few weeks, Zeppelin, Hendrix, Floyd. Partially brought on by me rereading Lord of the Rings and the references in Zeppelin songs, and also from watching Pirate Radio I suppose.
Carnival this week, this one shall be different.

| | content | ] | Another Year, Another Decade, Makes me feel old when I think this is technically the third decade that I've been alive in, even if I can only remember 2 of them.
I've never really understood why people make New Year's resolutions just like I never really understodd why people give gifts at Christmas. You don't need a holiday as an excuse or reason to do such things, if you feel like showering your loved ones with gifts, or want to accomplish something go ahead and do it. With that being said, I do have some goals for the upcoming year.
1. Finish the books in which I have started (Brisinger) and finish the series I have started reading (Dune and Hitchhiker's Guide) 2. Reread Lord of the Rings, as the last time I read it was in 8th grade 3. Acheive at least a 3.0 semester GPA at Tech this Semester 4. Get back with TACOM/TARDEC if possible 5. Start some kind of Musical Group/Project 6. Restart Dream Recording
I'm sure I'll come up with additional things as the year goes on, most likely posted in this, the cloesest thing I have. Sure it isnt private or anything, but the only people that actually read this are people that I wouldnt mind sharing such thoughts with.
Brought in the Decade with a Lord of the Rings Marathon, extended edition of course. Couldn't have asked for anything better.

| | The Smashing Pumpkins | ] | So I made the drive back by myself for the first time these past 2 days, 2 and a half hours to Gaylord from Great Lakes Crossing, it was a nice night time drive, little surprised on how busy it was but after Flint and Saginaw it cleared up. Listened to the Protomen Saga on the way there, and then ended the drive with some Dethklok, as I was getting to Gaylord this religious channel was piping in and out over my music, I found it Ironic on what I was listening to at the time. Watched some Flight of the Conchords that I picked up for 8 Dollars on Black Friday, and Read The Sceince of Superheroes book my Revisions teacher lent me for use in my paper. Its an alright read I guess, in all honesty I'm not a giant fan of the notion of such things, I dont really care that the logical explanation for why the Green Lantern Power Ring doesn't work on Yellow is because it is a psychological fail safe placed on the Corps by the Guardians so they don't rebel. I much rather prefer the comic explanation. Note this book was wrote before Geoff Jones took over the series.
Made the Longer part of the drive today, also without incident. Listened to my Audiobook/Radio Drama of Batman: Knightfall by the BBC, pretty good voice workings, nice background noises and ambiance. The Audiobook/Radio Drama took the majority of the drive, started it after the bridge and it lasted till I was leaving Marquette. Listened to random songs till I drove into the driveway.
Overall it took about 8 and a half hours of driving time with stops for gas and food. Not bad at all.
One thing of interest was a giant batsignal spray painted onto a rock face outside of Escanaba, that made me chuckle.
Some snow on the ground here and there but nothing to really note. After looking at the upcoming weather, its going to snow for the next week, just like it does every year it seems.
See you all in three weeks or so. |

| | The Gunshy - Your Favorite Dylan Song | ] | On this the eve of my 20th Birthday, I went to view Where The Wild Things Are. I find the significance of the matter quiet startling. 20, no longer a kid, no longer a a teenager. Quiet a big burden when one comes to think about it. I found the film very touching, from the very beginning in which Max in building a snow fort, I've never been one fond of doing things outside, but I've always enjoyed making forts from the giant banks of snow. The film referred to it being simpler in the past, which is true, no one ever wants to really grow up, in some sense, as who wouldn't want to remain a carefree child, that has dirt clob wars, wild rumpuses, or making forts of out sticks n such. I found all of this very touching in a way I have trouble explaining. But i feel it was a very significant matter that was enhanced by when i saw it.
EDIT: Something else that came to mind, among these other themes, expectations that are placed upon us by others and by ourselves is a prominent part of the film. These kinda scare me, I'd like to live up to the expectations that others have of me and that I have for myself, but sometimes i feel like I have trouble doing so, and am fearful of the reactions of those I could let down. |

I woke up today, it was snowing, there's snow on my roof and a little on the frosted over grass. I walk downstairs, get the mail, my copy of Transmetropolitan Volume 3 is sticking out of the mailbox. I proceed to make myself breakfast, eggs, bacon, toast with raspberry jam. I enjoy the writings of Warren Ellis under a blanket with a pot of coffee.

| Leave our Comics Alone |
[Sep. 11th, 2009|01:00 am] |
So as everyone is aware of Marvel has been bought by Disney, I could give two shits about that entire ordeal, as I don't read Marvel except for Captain America.
Today I found out that Warner Brothers, of which DC is a subsidiary off has reformed DC Comics has reformed the company into DC Entertainment, Inc.
"The founding of DC Entertainment is about Warner Bros. taking DC to the next level and giving DC an even greater degree of focus and prioritization in all the businesses in which we operateāfilms, television, home entertainment, digital, consumer products and videogames."
-_- I don't need/want tons of DC Movies and Games, coughMarvelcough, as some things shouldn't be made into films....
"Diane Nelson, the new President of DC Entertainment who has been working for Warner Brothers for over a decade ... recently in 2006 as the President of Warner Premiere; a studio based production company which develops and produces direct to consumer DVD. Nelson is no stranger to working "cross divisionally," either. Her experience is that of a marketing executive, and while she clearly has experience in working "cross divisionally and throughout Warner," to "maximize and optimize all of the various windows and outlets available to the studios' franchises and brands;" "
So they put someone who may have no idea about the characters in the books, but someone who knows how to make money off of them...
Whatever the deal, if they even touch Vertigo, I'm going to fully stop paying for comics and going directly to scans.
Cant we leave the comic book companies alone and let them do what they do best....make comics... If I was promised that no comic book would ever be attempted to be made into a movie ever again, I would never complain again |

| | Coraline Soundtrack - Exploration | ] | So begins another year at Michigan Tech, off campus now with people from my floor in the dorms, really close to downtown Houghton, and only a short Bike Ride away from campus. Going to be making a video tour of the House sometime soon (tomorrow most likely)so you all can see my humble abode.
It's a strange feeling to come back to school, excited as it gets my mind going again, and forces some structure on my life, which is a good thing, but this structure and turning of the gears in my head brings many a nights worth of work to be done, but that is life.
It's also strange being away from home, which is a first for me, until this past summer there wasn't much for me to look forward to when I came home from school, other than the break from school, and not having to worry about my downloads from public sites. Please note the following statement(s) are not intended to be cheesy but will probably appear as such. Now, it's strange, I have something back home I want to be with so much, so much, and the day can't come soon enough when I'll see her again, which is going to be sometime around my birthday, as that is just how amazing she is. It's ironic how these events played out over the last year, it's too, storybook or like some romantic/comedy/drama movie you could say, ups downs all-around, the series of events could be summed up with quotes, but I'll spare you all the cheesiness of that, just something that makes me think about the bigger scale of life.
Hope you all are well, enjoy the fall weather, and I'll see you all in November or possibly sooner |

| The Dumbest Genration |

| [ | State of Mind |
| | thoughtful | ] | I am a member of the so called Dumbest Generation, and if you are reading this than it is likely that you are as well.
While driving home tonight I set my radio to WRIF as my iPod had died earlier that day, instead of music I was surprised to hear talk radio, as who besides college students like to DJ at 1:30 AM on a Sunday evening?
The topic of discussion was on the so called "Dumbest Generation" as a college professor had just published a book on the subject, basically, we are the dumbest generation, we are being degraded by our constant use of the internet for social networking, the degradation of the vocabulary of the average high school graduate because of text messaging, the lack of knowledge about general United States History in today's youth, and other topics along those lines.
I would have to say I agree with what was being said, we have gotten lazy in some areas, if we don't check our social networking sites, text, call a friend, check our email every six hours (not counting time slept) anxiety sets in, a feeling of being cut off from the world. If you asked the average 15 year old to sit down and read for 1 hour while not being in reach of a screen keyboard or phone, and the reading being recreational, I do not think most would be able to do so.
We have this great tool at our hands, The Internet, and what is it used for by the majority of today's youth? Networking. While it has the potential for so much more.
Now I'm not saying that all of us in this generation are unaware of more than what is presented to us by a screen about the latest gossip and scandals involving our friends. I know many a friend that are aware of what is transpiring around the world.
I enjoyed the program so much that I actually sat in my car after i got home and listened to it for a while.
I also find great irony in the fact that I'm posting these thoughts on this site |

Sometimes I wonder why the fuck I even bother coming home at all, so what if I don't show any fucking interest in scraping paint off the side of your building or planting grass seed, don't like it pay some one else to do it.
I don't know whats more pathetic the fact im ranting about here, or that I'll never grow the balls to say it to the old man's face for fear of losing a few teeth, or at least the threat or losing them. I'm glad im nowhere near you for 3/4 of the year. |

| | chipper | ] | So apparently my family thinks i spend to much time on the computer (which may be true) so my dad hooked up the wireless router to an X-Mas light timer that we use for the lights outside. This timer would shut off the Internet from 12-4 pm and from 12-6 am much to my annoyance as I did not really think my antenna on my laptop was that shitty. Upon inspection of the router one night I discovered this devious little contraption and though of ways to get around such a deterrent, originally i thought of just setting it so it never shut the router down but that would surely be noticed, instead upon careful inspection of the device I came across the manual override switch, a switch that overrides the programming of the timer while still maintaining the appearance of a functioning timer, clock changes, times for allowance are still set, etc.
Technology will not defeat me, I shall defeat Technology.
In other words, there's a relay for life on May the 30th at Middle School North (24 & Gratiot) (Not Anchor Bay) Mike's Comics is having a tent, should be fun, head out learn how to play some games, and make cancer better, and stuff. |
